Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
