Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important representative commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
